To Our Valued Customers,

For the past 30 years, we at Federal Elite Heating & Cooling, Inc. has made it our responsibility to provide the best HVAC service possible to our customers. We feel that part of that responsibility is keeping our customers informed of the rapidly approaching end of the mandatory EPA phase out of the refrigerant R-22. After the year 2020, this refrigerant will no longer be produced. This is a very common refrigerant used in air conditioners manufactured prior to 2010. As a result of this phase out, the cost of repairs involving this refrigerant have and will continue to rise to astronomical rates. Following this phase out, equipment using this type of refrigerant will become obsolete.

We offer a variety of service plans to help extend the life of your equipment, as well as free estimates for equipment replacement, by our qualified comfort consultants. Please do not hesitate to call us with any questions or concerns that you may have regarding this issue.

Things to Check Before Calling for Furnace or Air Conditioning Repair in Central Ohio

Troubleshooting Your HVAC System

  • Thermostat Check:
    • Ensure the thermostat battery is functional; replace it if necessary.
    • Verify the temperature setting is appropriate (set to heat/cool and higher/lower than the current room temperature).
    • Be aware of the lockout period in newer thermostats, which prevents compressor damage by delaying system restart for 5-10 minutes after changes.
  • Safety Switch:
    • Locate the safety switch on or near the indoor unit. It may have been accidentally turned off by someone or something bumping into it.
  • Fuse or Circuit Breaker:
    • Check that the circuit breaker is in the “on” position. If it appears on but the system isn’t working, turn it off and then back on to reset it.
  • Air Filter:
    • Inspect the air filter and replace it if dirty. A clogged filter can reduce airflow, causing the A/C to freeze or the furnace to overheat. Change filters every 6-12 months and never run the system without one to avoid debris buildup in the coil.
  • Vents:
    • Ensure all vents are open. Closing vents in unused areas can restrict airflow, leading to system issues like a frozen A/C or an overheated furnace.
